The Void Union – Higher Guns (11.05.2012)
Es ist der zweite Streich der findigen Ska-Allstars aus Boston. Auf "Higher Guns" wird verfeinert, was von Beginn an Konzept war. Aufnahmetechnik a la Skatalites zu Studio 1-Zeiten,
erdiger, authentischer Ska und Reggae mit Jamaican Jazz-Attitüde und das Who is Who der amerikanischen Skaszene als Gästeliste für die Aufnahmen. Neben Dave Hillyard, King Django, Obi Fernandez und einigen
Mitgliedern von Westbound Train wurde unter anderem Angelo Moore (Fishbone) verewigt. Wer auf der Suche nach dem nächsten erfolgreichen US-Import ist, der wird hier fündig. Ausnahmslos grandioses Liedgut trifft
auf eine bezaubernde und dennoch kühle Spielweise, wie wir diese sonst wahrlich nur von den alten Hasen kennen.
The second album of the Ska-Allstars from Boston, U.S.A., “Higher Guns” continues and refines their concept: Vintage recording styles like Skatalites in Studio 1, earthy, authentic ska and reggae with a great Jamaican jazz attitude and the who is who of the American ska scene on the guest list of their recordings. Besides Dave Hillyard, King Django, Obi Fernandez and some musicians from Westbound Train, also Angelo Moore (Fishbone), among others, contributed. This is definitely the next bigger successful U.S.-Import. The Void Union did a wonderful piece of old fashioned sound which we usually just know from the old hands of ska.

bestellt. Die Band aus Oulu hat eine lange, fruchtbare Geschichte aufzuweisen, die bis zu den Anfängen der Third Wave-Bewegung zurückreicht. Two Tone liegt ihnen seit Beginn an schwer am Herzen und durch ihre
auffällige Qualität in ihrer Musik, zählen sie sicher zum Besten, was die Two Tone-Szene außerhalb Englands zu bieten hat. Es wurde also Zeit, dass ihre gesamte, beeindruckende Bandgeschichte auf einem Album

The crazy two-tone-heroes from finland are well known for their excessive party-gigs and now and then for one more drink in the entire ska scene. The band has got a long, versatile history since its very first steps right from the start of the third wave movement of the ska scene. Two Tone-Style was always their favourite and with their exclusive quality in their music they are surely within the best two tone bands outside the u.k.! So it`s about time to catch their whole story into their actual, great sound of nowadays, a contemporary two tone ska with lots of melody, fun, style and a deep musical quality. If two tone survives the next 20 years, The Blaster Master have been significant contributors to the contemporary two tone movement like no one else outside the U.K.

Desorden Publico haben sich 1985 in Caracas gegründet. Sie sind die erfolgreichste Skaband Venezuelas und Südamerikas. 25 Jahre Bühnenerfahrung, 8 Studioalben, darunter Gold und Platin,
Livealben, DVD´s und Bücher, die über sie geschrieben wurden, zeugen von ihrem unerschütterlichen Status als Nummer 1 der lateinamerikanischen Skaszene. Ausgiebige Tourneen führten sie durch mehr als 30 Ländern
über den gesamten Erdball. Mit ihrem neuesten Album „Los Contrarios“ setzen sie ihrer Karriere eigens die Krone auf. Es ist die sicherlich beste Scheibe der Südamerikaner bis dato, die einen ausgereiften Mix aus
Ska, Reggae, Latin & Punk`n`Roll präsentiert. Mit namhaften Gastmusikern bestückt (u.a. Campino`s Stimme bei „City Of The Dead“) zeigen sie ihre Weltoffenheit und die sympathischen Kontakte, die sich mit

The Butlers – AKA Bensonmam
Nach gut 25 Jahren Bandgeschichte präsentieren The Butlers zum Jahresstart 2012 ihre aufwändig produzierte Jubiläums-CD. Mit „AKA Bensonmam“ kehren sie ihren ureigenen Butlers-Sound mehr nach außen denn je: Druckvoller Ska ist ebenso zu hören wie ihr beliebter souliger Rebel Rock. Doch mutig lassen sie auch Musik zwischen den Zeilen zu, geben ihren namhaften Gästen (u.a. Dr.Ring Ding, Alfi von Seeed, Nana & Guido von Engine 54, Daniel von Time Tough, Waki von Jazzbo und Rob von Blascore) jede Menge Freiraum und schaffen damit wieder einmal einen Silberling, der seiner Zeit definitiv voraus ist. Dennoch gelingt der Spagat zwischen leicht verdaulicher Kost und anspruchsvoller, abwechslungsreicher Skamusik mit Leichtigkeit. After 25 years on the road The Butlers present their eloborate produced jubilee-CD at the beginning of 2012. On “AKA Bensonmam” they represent their intrinsic part of their music more than ever: Powerful Skabeats and their typical soulful Rebel Rock are the main part of the album. Once again they allow different musical facets between the lines and give their prominent guest-musicians lots of space. The result once more is a longplayer which is ahead of it`s time. Nevertheless the balancing act between simple skavibes and an ambitious and diversified sound easily succeeded. They are still aware of their musicianship. And together with years of experience they actual built an energetic sound with lots of charm and soul. By going with their gut they make their goal. The title “AKA Bensonmam” puts it in a nutshell. PRINCE PERRY - LOVE AT THE END OF THE CENTURY
Das Sextett um Sänger und Gitarrist Perry Gladstone präsentieret mit "Love At The End Of The Century" 11 Songs, die zwar klar im Ska verhaftet bleiben, doch Pop-Appeal mit stark britischer Schlagseite ist das auffälligste und charmanteste Merkmal dieses Albums. Mit einem sensationellen Gespür dafür, poppige Melodien auf abgeklärt melancholische Stimmung zu treffen zu lassen, huldigen Prince Perry dem Geist der Insel, als hätten sich Madness, The Hotknives, Elvis Costello, Terry Hall und Joe Strummer zum Fünf-Uhr-Tee getroffen. Jeder der 11 Songs hat einen unvergesslichen Refrain, und selbst das Police-Cover "Walking On The Moon" oder das auf Spanisch gesungene "Yo Te Vi" fallen nicht aus der Reihe. Freddy Loco aka Fred Rafhay macht mit "Round 4" den nächsten großen Schritt auf seinem Weg, ein unverzichtbares Bindeglied zwischen Acts wie den legendären Skatalites und dem fantastischen New York Ska Jazz Ensemble zu bilden. Lässiger und sehr stilvoller Ska-Jazz ist der Masterplan - und die Einflüsse sind leicht zu erkennen: Seine coole Attitüde erinnert an die großen Jazzer. Die musikalische Gratwanderung geht von Cool Jazz bis Ska-Pop, von groovigem Blues bis zu Lounge- Elementen, oft instrumental, doch auch mit seiner unverkennbar melancholisch-coolen Stimme begleitet. Mit Kevin Batchelor’s Grand Concourse hat der seit 25 Jahren in Brooklyn ansässige Ska und Reggae-Profi ein hochkarätiges Line-Up vereint, das u.a. Musiker von Bands wie The Toasters, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, The Stingers Atx, The Skatalites oder Westbound Train einschließt.
